Skyfield Digital plans and supervises site migrations so a new design, platform or domain does not cost you organic traffic: benchmarking before launch, one-to-one redirect mapping, launch day checks and monitoring afterward.
We respond within 48 hours.
No obligation. Your review covers your current rankings, technical risks and how AI engines cite your site today.
A redesign changes more than how a site looks. New URLs, templates, headings, internal links and rendering can all change how Google reads a site, and a launch can undo years of accumulated signals in a weekend. The common causes are missing redirects, pages dropped without a replacement, staging blocks left on the live site and content moved into code that search engines struggle to read.
Skyfield Digital's website migration SEO service treats SEO as part of the project plan. We benchmark rankings, traffic and URLs, build the redirect map, review the staging site, run the launch day checklist and watch Search Console and analytics closely afterward. Our technical SEO checklist for website migrations shows the steps in detail.
Because we also run website development, we can build the new site with these requirements in place from the first design, or work alongside your own developers or another agency. We check AI visibility before and after as well, since a change in structure can change which pages AI engines cite, which is part of our GEO work.
Every number we report comes from Google Search Console, GA4 and your own tracked AI prompts.
Website migration SEO from the first crawl to the weeks after launch.
A crawl and record of current URLs, rankings, traffic, links and top pages so results can be compared after launch.
A one-to-one 301 redirect map for every URL that changes, with chains and loops removed before launch.
Checks for indexing blocks, canonicals, headings, internal links, schema, speed and rendering before the site goes live.
Verification that the pages earning traffic keep their content, structure and links in the new design.
Robots rules, sitemaps, redirects, analytics and Search Console verified as the site goes live.
Daily and then weekly review of indexing, rankings, errors and traffic, with issues flagged and fixed as they appear.
The difference shows up in the weeks after go-live.
| Launch Without SEO Review | SEO-Led Migration | Developer Redirects Only | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Benchmark | None | Rankings, traffic and URLs recorded before launch | Often skipped |
| Redirects | Gaps found after traffic drops | One-to-one map for every changed URL | Pattern rules, edge cases missed |
| Staging site | Sometimes indexable by accident | Protected and reviewed | Protected, not reviewed for SEO |
| Content | Changed freely | Top pages kept in parity | Changed freely |
| Monitoring | When someone notices | Scheduled watch after launch | Rarely |
| AI visibility | Not checked | Checked before and after | Not checked |

It is the SEO planning and supervision of a site change such as a redesign, platform move, domain change or URL restructure. The goal is to keep the rankings, traffic and links the site has earned while the change takes place.
It does not have to. Rankings are most at risk when URLs, internal links and page structure change together without redirects and checks. With a benchmark, a redirect map and a launch review, most of the risk can be removed, though some short-term movement is normal while Google reprocesses the site.
Google's documentation says to keep redirects for at least one year. In practice we recommend leaving them in place permanently for any URL that still receives traffic or links, since they cost almost nothing to maintain.
Google says a medium-sized site is typically processed within a few weeks, with larger sites taking longer. Temporary movement in rankings during that period is common. A decline that keeps deepening after the first month usually points to a problem worth investigating.
Yes. Domain changes add steps such as domain-level redirects, the Change of Address tool in Search Console, updated links and property verification. We plan and monitor those alongside the page-level work.
